Klamath Bird Observatory Events and Updates

This time of year KBO has a calendar full of events. These events include Banding with KBO Scientists, Halcyon Journey presentation, and Beginner Birder talk and walk. KBO is in the running with other local nonprofits for the Ashland Food Co-op Change for Good Program. Only the top 11 nonprofits get the opportunity to participate. We need you to vote for KBO. Explore Shasta Valley with Shannon Rio

Take a ride with Shannon Rio as she takes through the majestic Shasta Valley. You will explore this wondrous land where wildlife and agriculture mix. The valley has wetlands, juniper forests, riparian forests, and crop lands all with the backdrop of Mount Shasta. Providing you with the opportunity to see a diversity of birds and other wildlife. Shannon enjoys taking the roads less traveled giving you an experience you won’t find anywhere else. There are two parts to this adventure a presentation on Thursday, May 19th at 6:30 pm and a field trip on Sunday, May 22nd. Klamath Bird Observatory has several exciting events happening right around the corner. This coming Saturday KBO will be at North Mountain park for Rogue Valley Bird Day. This is a free family-friendly event with activities for everyone. Come say hello to KBO staff and our new interns that will be staffing the bird banding station. Don’t forget to reserve your spot for the Welcome to Shasta Valley Trip let by board member Shannon Rio. There is a presentation on May 19th and the field trip is on May 22nd. Now open for registration Beginner Bird Talk and Walk at Lower Table Rock with KBO board member Amanda Alford. The presentation is on June 9th and the field trip will be on June 11th. Mark your Calendars with our Spring FUNdraisers!

Klamath Bird Observatory (KBO) FUNdraising events are organized and hosted by the KBO board. They have been working hard on this amazing spring lineup. Events include a day trip to Shasta, bird banding with KBO staff, a garden party, and the highly anticipated birding by ear workshop. There is something for everyone! Registration for events will open a month before the event. Some have limited spots so make sure to mark your calendar.

Garden Party Artists

The Garden Party at Grizzly Peak Winery is host to 4 astounding artists, Tish Mcfadden, Beth Martin, Judy Bjorlie, and Paula Fong. During the event, you will have time to browse and purchase their art. As well as drink delicious wine, enjoy light hors d’oeuvres, and listen to lovely melodies.  The Garden Party is on Saturday, April 30th, 1 pm – 4 pm tickets are $75 per person and are available.

A Garden Party at Grizzly Peak a KBO FUNdraiser

Come join us for an afternoon outdoors for a KBO FUNdraiser in Ashland with live music, an art exhibit, food, wine, and beverages on Saturday, April 30th from 1:00-4:00 PM at Grizzly Peak Winery. Enjoy the sounds of a string quartet with violins Melissa Orr and Bari Frimkess, violist Emily Severson and cellist Doug Fong, and the popular guitar duo of Craig Martin and Tim Church. View works of local artists and meander through this beautiful Ashland property. An array of tasty finger foods, Grizzly Peak wines, and other beverages will be offered throughout the afternoon.

First Talk and Walk of the Season

Talks and Walks are a great way to start your birding adventure. You can learn about local birds, explore new places, and be outside. Join KBO board president and nature enthusiast Shannon Rio for a bird walk of North Mountain Park. Shannon is eager to get back out and share the joys of birding with everyone. North Mountain Park offers the opportunity to see a variety of birds in an easy-to-access environment. Walk and talks are free and open to anyone. Binoculars are available for use. 

Upcoming KBO Events

Klamath Bird Observatory has three amazing events coming up that you aren’t going to want to miss.

Birding Beyond Borders happening February 24th, 6 pm – 7 pm, free over Zoom. Presentation by Shannon Rio, KBO Board president, and Luiza Figueira a past KBO intern and current OAMa Excutive Director. It praises the value of diversity in all of the aspects that nature provides to us: diversity of landscape, diversity of peoples and culture, and how that diversity equals a balanced healthy world. 

FUNdraiser Hawks and Ducks field trip happening March 5th. Fun to be had!

Bird Conmigo a free bilingual bird walking series happening at local Medford parks.
