Community Earth Day Celebration
On Earth Day weekend Klamath Bird Observatory will not only be hosting Talk and Walks but we are also going to be at the Celebrate Earth Day event. This event is being hosted by Temple Emek Shalom and SOHEVA at Temple Emek Shalom on April 24th, 1 pm – 4 pm. Fun, free, informative event for the whole family will feature more than a dozen organizations committed to environmental protection and a healthy planet. An opportunity to test drive electric vehicles, enjoy food trucks, music, and activities for kids.
Bird Conmigo at Fichtner Mainwaring Park
The next Bird Conmigo bird walk is almost here! Join the KBO team this Saturday, April 2nd, at Fitchner Mainwaring Park in Medford at 10 am for an exploration of our urban backyard.
First Talk and Walk of the Season
Talks and Walks are a great way to start your birding adventure. You can learn about local birds, explore new places, and be outside. Join KBO board president and nature enthusiast Shannon Rio for a bird walk of North Mountain Park. Shannon is eager to get back out and share the joys of birding with everyone. North Mountain Park offers the opportunity to see a variety of birds in an easy-to-access environment. Walk and talks are free and open to anyone. Binoculars are available for use.

Talk and Walk’s are Back!
Talk and Walk are back by popular demand. These are a donation-based series that happens at a variety of locations. It is a great opportunity to explore Southern Oregon, increase your birding knowledge, and make new friends. We welcome birders on all levels. Binoculars’ are available for use.
Our first walk and talk is on March 26th at 9 am with Shannon Rio. She will be taking us around North Mountain Park. Our second outing will be celebrating Earth Day on April 23rd at 9 am at the Rogue River Preserve. More walks and talks to be added!

Klamath Bird Observatory has three amazing events coming up that you aren’t going to want to miss.
Birding Beyond Borders happening February 24th, 6 pm – 7 pm, free over Zoom. Presentation by Shannon Rio, KBO Board president, and Luiza Figueira a past KBO intern and current OAMa Excutive Director. It praises the value of diversity in all of the aspects that nature provides to us: diversity of landscape, diversity of peoples and culture, and how that diversity equals a balanced healthy world.

FUNdraiser — Ducks & Hawks Field Trip
Join KBO board members Amanda Alford and Dick Ashford for an all-day outing on March 5th, when we’ll look at everything “the basin” has to offer. Dick and Amanda will plan a route that will give us our best chances of seeing the varied birdlife for which the Klamath Basin is famous. And, we’ll have lots of fun doing it!
A Holiday FUNdraiser, Shopping, and Outreach Spetacular
Start your holiday season off right by supporting bird conservation. This Black Friday, shop local and support conservation by buying gifts from the KBO Gear shop or Sunday Afternoon. You can purchase KBO Gear in person at the Northwest Nature Shop on First Friday in December.
Looking for fun holiday activities that also give back? Join KBO for a Holiday FUNdraiser — Contemplative Photography on December 11th, hosted by Shannon Rio and Amanda Alford, with a presentation by Kirk Gooding. This is an in-person event with appetizers, and beverages will be provided. You can also spend the evening with KBO at Luna Cafe for Cocktails for a Cause on December 20th.

Uncovering the Secrets of the Oregon Vesper Sparrow
Dr. Sarah Rockwell will share some recent research on the unique at-risk subspecies, Oregon Vesper Sparrow, including what we’ve learned from detailed nesting studies and new migration tracking technology. The talk will be held through the Salem Audubon Society over Zoom on February 8th, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.
Birding Beyond Borders
The Mantiqueira Bird Observatory, in partnership with the Klamath Bird Observatory, invites you for a free online magical trip to the Atlantic Forest of Southeast Brazil. The presentation is on February 24th, 6 pm – 7 pm PT. There you will learn about their tropical birds and conservation efforts. In a live presentation, Luiza Figueira, former KBO’s intern, and current OAMa’s executive director will talk about the development of the bird observatory in Brazil, their research and outreach projects to promote bird conservation. You will also be led through a diversity of local birds and will “walk” the trails in the tropical forests where OAMa does the long-term bird monitoring. Click to register for the event.
