Birds & Birding

Only a Few Spots Left!

There are only 3 spots left for the Talk and Walk led by Amanda Alford at the Rogue River Preserve on April 24th, 9 am – 11 am. Amanda is a KBO board member and a lover of all things bird and is excited to share. The preserve is owned and managed by the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy. Its 352 acres include several distinct habitats that support remarkable biodiversity, including at least 32 rare, declining, and uncommon plant and animal species. There isn’t a better way to celebrate Mother Earth.

Bird Conmigo at Fichtner Mainwaring Park

The next Bird Conmigo bird walk is almost here! Join the KBO team this Saturday, April 2nd, at Fitchner Mainwaring Park in Medford at 10 am for an exploration of our urban backyard.

First Talk and Walk of the Season

Talks and Walks are a great way to start your birding adventure. You can learn about local birds, explore new places, and be outside. Join KBO board president and nature enthusiast Shannon Rio for a bird walk of North Mountain Park. Shannon is eager to get back out and share the joys of birding with everyone. North Mountain Park offers the opportunity to see a variety of birds in an easy-to-access environment. Walk and talks are free and open to anyone. Binoculars are available for use.

Educational Videos from Vesper Meadow

Klamath Bird Observatory has been working with Vesper Meadow to engage and educate the community on the Oregon Vesper Sparrow. Vesper Meadow created two educational videos on the work that is being done to help this imperiled species by KBO and other partners. Follow the link to find these videos and learn more about the “little brown job”.

Talk and Walk’s are Back!

Talk and Walk are back by popular demand. These are a donation-based series that happens at a variety of locations. It is a great opportunity to explore Southern Oregon, increase your birding knowledge, and make new friends. We welcome birders on all levels. Binoculars’ are available for use. Our first walk and talk is on March 26th at 9 am with Shannon Rio. She will be taking us around North Mountain Park. Our second outing will be celebrating Earth Day on April 23rd at 9 am at the Rogue River Preserve. More walks and talks to be added!

FUNdraiser — Ducks & Hawks Field Trip

Join KBO board members Amanda Alford and Dick Ashford for an all-day outing on March 5th, when we’ll look at everything “the basin” has to offer. Dick and Amanda will plan a route that will give us our best chances of seeing the varied birdlife for which the Klamath Basin is famous. And, we’ll have lots of fun doing it!

Bird Conmigo

Join Klamath Bird Observatory for bilingual bird walks in Medford. We will be exploring local parks highlighting that you do not need to travel far to enjoy birds. For each bird walk, we will cover the basics of birding and introduce you to birds of the Rogue Valley. Making it perfect for beginner birders.

Positions Still Available!

Klamath Bird Observatory is still looking for highly motivated candidates to fill our bird banding internship and point count technician positions. Click to read more about these amazing opportunities.

Join KBO for a special holiday animation workshop. Larry Leichliter, former PEANUTS director and accomplished animator, will offer a live-action tutorial teaching participants to create a simple animation of Snoopy, the lovable canine character from the PEANUTS cartoon, and his feathered pal Woodstock. This FUNdraising workshop is a World Migratory Bird Day event. All proceeds will directly support the Partners in Flight international bird conservation initiative. Since this is a FUNdraising event, we ask registrants to make a donation of their choice, however, a free registration is also available upon request.
